Registration

If you’d like to attend Scotiacon, you’ll need to register beforehand via our online system. The sections below should tell you everything you need to know to register with us, but if you have any questions, check out our FAQ, NESSIE.

IconGeneral Information

Here are a few things to bear in mind during the registration process:

  • You will be asked to provide your legal name as part of the registration process. Please ensure that the name you give matches the name on the photographic ID that you will be bringing to the convention as we must match these to fulfil our obligation to make sure only registered attendees are present at the convention.
  • In addition to the usual physical ID that we accept, we are also able to accept certain digital ID which can be set up prior the convention. For further details on the digital ID we can accept, please see the Digital ID Connect website
  • All attendees must be 18 or more years old on the first day of their attendance at the convention.

IconRegistration Options

Residential vs. Non-Residential: We offer both residential and non-residential registration. The difference between the two is whether or not you will be staying overnight in one of our accommodation options or arranging your own accommodation. If you wish to seek alternative accommodation, or if we have run out of rooms to offer, you can secure your own accommodation elsewhere and select a non-residential registration. There are a number of alternative hotels within a short walk of our hotel, however, we have no special arrangements outside of the hotels we offer for residential registrations so you will be responsible for making your own bookings with them.

Extra Days: Standard residential registration includes a three night hotel stay, checking in on the Friday of the convention weekend and checking out on the following Monday. If you wish to arrive early and check in on Thursday or leave late and check out on Tuesday, this option is for you. Extra days are offered at a per-day rate depending on your room type and both attendees in a given room will need to select the same extra days to be eligible.

Day Tickets: We are pleased to be able to offer day tickets again this year. If you would like to attend the convention for certain days only, we offer these at a flat rate per day you wish to attend. You will need to choose which days you are attending when you register. Please note that these options are all strictly non-residential and do not include any accommodation so you will need to arrange your own if you are intending to stay in the area.

Sponsor Option: If you wish to pay more to sponsor the convention, first of all - thank you! Your additional contributions help us to make the convention even better for all our attendees. There is no obligation to sponsor, but if you choose to, you will receive some additional perks.

These include:

  • The official convention T-shirt in your chosen size
  • A sponsor-specific lanyard and badge
  • A Sponsor Meal in the Crowne Plaza Hotel

Super Sponsor Option: Along with Sponsor, we have an option for those that want to support the convention even more – the Super Sponsor option. If you select this option, thank you so much for your extra support for the convention! As a Super Sponsor, you’ll receive some unique and exciting items, some of which will not be available via any other method.

These include:

  • An official convention hoodie in your chosen size
  • The official convention T-shirt in your chosen size
  • A Super Sponsor-specific lanyard and badge
  • A Super Sponsor-specific meal at the Hilton Garden Inn
  • If you opt in, your name will also be included in our Super Sponsor credits!

Please note: You cannot be both a Sponsor and Super Sponsor (Sorry!). You will need to select only one of these, but don’t worry, if you want to upgrade later the option to do so will be available until registration closes.

T-Shirt: If you wish to purchase this year’s official convention T-shirt without upgrading to the Sponsor or Super Sponsor level this option is for you! For a small fee we will add one of the official convention T-shirts in your chosen size to your conpack. Please ensure you choose your preferred T-shirt size during the registration process. If you are already opting to purchase a Sponsor or Super Sponsor registration, you do not need to add this option to receive the T-shirt, as it is included as part of the cost of the Sponsor or Super Sponsor upgrades. If you purchase a Sponsor or Super Sponsor level registration and also select the T-shirt option, you will receive two T-shirts in the same size, the second of which will be paid for at the T-shirt rate.

If you want additional T-shirts or choose not to purchase one during registration, we usually purchase some additional stock for sale at the Dealers’ Den at the convention. However, this is subject to availability so purchasing through registration is the only way you can guarantee that you’ll receive a T-shirt and ensure this is in your preferred size.

IconOur Hotels: The Crowne Plaza

The Crowne Plaza Hotel is nestled in the heart of the Scottish Event Campus in Glasgow. Please see our Venue page for more details on its facilities.

The Crowne Plaza offers the following room types for residential attendees:

Standard: This is a standard room for two people; you will have the option of choosing either a king room with one king-size double bed, or a twin room with two separate beds.

Executive Room: This room type comes with executive lounge access and a king-sized bed.

Executive Suite: This room type comes with executive lounge access and includes an additional private sitting room space attached to the bedroom.

All residential attendees also receive complimentary access to the health club at the hotel, including a pool and sauna.

Please note that the hotel does not offer single rooms and, to ensure that we can offer accommodation to as many attendees as possible, we are not able to accept attendees paying double in order to secure an entire room to themselves. Each room must have two registered occupants.

We would like to remind attendees that we do not offer a room share matching service for attendees; you will need to find your own room share partner prior to registration. If you are unable to find a room share partner, we will not be able to progress your hotel booking.

We have exclusivity of the hotel for the convention weekend and so the only way to book a room at the Crowne Plaza for the convention days is through the convention; please do not call the hotel to secure a booking directly as you will not be able to do this.

IconOur Hotels: The Hilton Garden Inn

The Hilton Garden Inn is located about 7 minutes walk (approximately 500m) from the Crowne Plaza and has a number of twin and double rooms available. Please see our Venue page for more details on its facilities.

The Hilton Garden Inn offers the following room types for residential attendees:

Double: This is a standard room for two people with one queen-sized bed.

Twin: This is a standard room for two people with two individual beds.

Please note, there are no executive or suite options at the Hilton Garden Inn.

When registering, as in previous years, you will rank the room types that you are willing to accept into a choice order. If you would like to be considered for either (or both!) of the Hilton Garden Inn room types, add them to your ranking. If you do not wish to stay in the Hilton Garden Inn and only wish to be considered for the Crowne Plaza, simply leave them out of your ranking.

As we have secured the whole of the hotel for the convention weekend, the only way to book a room at the Hilton Garden Inn for the convention days is through the convention; please do not call the hotel to secure a booking directly as you will not be able to do this.

IconOur Hotels: Accessible Rooms

Our hotels both offer accessible rooms, however, these are very limited. All accessible rooms across both hotels are double rooms; neither hotel has any accessible twin rooms available. The Crowne Plaza has one room on floor 14 and one on floor 15, so please bear in mind there will be a dependency on lift travel to reach these. The Hilton Garden Inn has nine rooms across the first and second floors. To request an accessible room, please select this room choice on your registration form, and then continue as normal. Depending on the outcome of the lottery, you will be offered one if there is one available.

IconHow Registration Works

This year, in response to the massive and increasing demand for residential registrations, which led to us initially selling out of hotel rooms in under ten minutes in 2026, we are moving away from a "first come, first served" registration approach for residential registrations to a lottery-based system for 2027. This provides the following benefits:

  • Attendees can register at any point in the initial two week window, rather than having to be available at a specific date and time
  • There is no disadvantage to those who might take longer to fill in the form
  • Everyone can take the time needed to ensure their registration information is accurate

We believe that this system provides the fairest and most accessible approach to registration for our whole attendee base and hope that our attendees will appreciate the new approach. Here's how the process will work:

Attendees will have a two-week period following the opening of registration to register within our system, organise a roommate, and decide on accommodation preference options. The point at which you register within this window will not affect your chances of being selected in the lottery.

Following the two weeks, all current eligible registrations will be entered into a lottery and drawn randomly into the attendee's highest-ranked accommodation preference which is still available. If none of the attendee's accommodation preferences are still available, the registration will not be offered a hotel room.

Registrations will continue to be drawn from the lottery and assigned hotel rooms in this manner until all hotel rooms are assigned or there are no attendees remaining to be drawn.

All attendees entered into the draw will be notified within a few days of the lottery what their specific outcome is, but payment will not be due until a specific payment confirmation email is sent out, which could be up to a month after the initial draw and will not be all at once as we work to verify and assign payments to registrations. We will keep attendees up to date on our usual social media and announcement channels if this process is delayed for any reason.

Payment can be accepted by card through our website, or via bank transfer. Payment will need to be received within one week of the request being made, otherwise the registration will be released, including any room reservation. Please note that, for residential attendance, both attendees in the room share need to have paid by the deadline in order to secure the room.

Once registration is verified and paid for this will become locked and no further changes can be made without cancelling the registration and starting anew, which could incur additional fees.

Please note that, to be included in the lottery draw, you must have organised a room share and finalised this within the registration system by sending your room share partner the invite link from the system and having them use it before the pre-lottery window concludes. If you have not arranged a room share partner and formalised this in the system, your registration will be incomplete and you will not be added into the lottery draw. Instead, your registration will be added to the waiting list once you have finalised your room share in our system.

Whoever generates the invite link is the “lead” of the room share. Only the lead needs to share the link, the other person sharing does not need to share a link in return. Room shares can be dissolved and re-made through the system until the two week period for registration prior to the lottery closes, or for those registering later after the lottery is concluded, until your registration has been confirmed.

Any attendees that are left without a hotel room after the lottery will form the waiting list for rooms, the order of which will be based on further lottery draws until all registrations have been drawn. Attendees registering for a residential registration after the lottery is completed will be added to the back of the waiting list as they register.

Hotel rooms that become available after the lottery concludes will be offered to the first attendee that has the available room type on their accommodation preference list. Should an attendee on the waiting list reject an offer of accommodation, their registration will be moved to the back of the waiting list. At any point prior to accepting an offer of accommodation an attendee can choose to change their registration from residential to non-residential and arrange their own accommodation.

Non-residential registrations, where attendees attend the convention but arrange their own accommodation outside of our partner hotels, will continue to operate on a "first come, first served" basis as these generally tend to remain available for much longer than our supply of hotel rooms.

Following a successful trial in 2026, badge numbers will be assigned randomly rather than sequentially, so the time at which you register will have no bearing on the badge number you receive.

IconPricing

Following recent years where our pricing remained level, our 2027 hotel costs have risen slightly to reflect increases across the industry. However, we have tried to keep these as low as possible and believe this still represents good value for the weekend. The convention fee, the amount the convention receives once the accommodation cost is paid to the hotel, has remained the same, so non-residential costs remain unchanged, as do shirt, sponsor, and super-sponsor add-on costs.

Residential Attendance

All costs are per person, not per room!

The standard residential attendance price includes a hotel stay at the Crowne Plaza or Hilton Garden Inn, checking in on the Friday of the convention weekend and checking out on the following Monday.

The extra days are checking in on Thursday (early arrival) and/or checking out on Tuesday (late departure).
